Working with the Netting

If you plan on making lots of scrubbies, we highly recommend getting one of these holders! The spool holder keeps your netting spool from rolling around while you work, making it much easier to pull the netting off the spool as you crochet. You can make a wooden holder such as pictured or you can buy a bathroom toilet tissue holder and fasten it to sturdy cardboard or a piece of wood.

Prepping and working with two colors

Need to work with 2 different colors? These images show two ways to cut the netting in half while it is still on the spool.

A serrated bread knife or other saw-like kitchen knife can be used to saw through the netting, all the way around and through the cardboard tube the netting is rolled on. It helps to mark the half-way point with pen on the protective wrap before cutting and use it as a guide. Linda suggests that a rubber band be placed on each side of the middle markings to keep the netting from popping off the cardboard tube.

The second way is to use an electric carving knife like an electric saw and cut all the way around the spool cutting the spool into 2 sections. Again, use those rubber bands to hold both sides in place and mark the middle with pen. Contact Linda if you have any question on how to do this.
